上世纪七十年代末，拥有孩子身高及容貌的年近三十的杜娟收养了一个女孩，取名笑笑。为了笑笑的舞蹈梦，杜鹃开始在城里创业，做起小吃生意。经过几年的奋斗，杜鹃的生意走上正轨，她也将笑笑送入了专业的舞蹈学校。然而虚荣的笑笑却开始对杜鹃渐生嫌隙。为了不拖累笑笑，杜鹃踏上寻找笑笑亲生父母之路，一只多年前遗留的小舞鞋，让笑笑的身世之谜浮出水面。为了笑笑前途，杜鹃选择将笑笑送回生母舞蹈老师周兰身边，并依旧默默守护着笑笑，笑笑在新家没有得到想要的生活，她受到周家人排挤，眼睛更是在一次意外中受伤，面临失明危险。笑笑开始怀念养母杜鹃，要回到杜鹃身边。杜鹃也通过努力为笑笑治好眼睛，最终和笑笑重拾母女亲情。。Set in the 1930's, this gangster spoof tells the comic tale of a Johnny Kelly (Michael Keaton) who is forced into a life of crime in order to pay for his ailing mother's medical treatment.
