这部动画片描述了一个生动的校园故事：立志成为绘本作家的高中生仲上真一郎和被仲上家领养的在同一高中就读的汤浅比吕美、还有父母一起生活。某日、真一郎在学校的后院和爬树后掉下的少女石动乃绘相遇。乃绘由于过去发生的某件事而变得流不出眼泪。真一郎在和她相遇之后，同比吕美、野伏三代吉、安藤爱子之间的关系还有自己自身的想法都产生了很大的动摇。他们为了各自的事而烦恼、摸索自己着必须要做的事、逐渐成长。。Plebs is described as "a thoroughly modern comedy in an ancient setting."
