抗战时期，天津有个评剧班子“义亭社”。领班师傅张义亭善良耿直，他的女儿银灵芝色艺双绝，是个评剧红星。女儿因糊涂下嫁汉奸李司令为妾，张义亭一怒之下与女儿断绝关系。他收养的义子张乐天与师妹彩霞从小青梅竹马，患难中结为夫妻。一次演出，恶霸王五陵看上彩霞，到后台企图调戏，彩霞不从，得罪了王五陵。张义亭为逃避当地恶势力迫害，带领戏班颠沛流离，漂泊到青岛，张义亭一病不起。乐天的弟弟苦三被日军抓去作劳工，乐天无奈，靠卖血维持生活。彩霞为救师傅和陷入困境的戏班，将自己典卖给一个烟土奸商，留下一张典妻文契和一叠钞票，凄然离去。抗战胜利，苦三逃了回来。此时李司令已被八路军击毙。银灵芝却又被李司令的副官霸占，他攫取了银灵芝的财物，又将银灵芝遗弃在上海街头。大病初愈的张义亭带着戏班重返天津。彩霞的妹妹金香已长大并挑台唱戏，恶霸王五陵又看上金香。指使戏院老板布下陷阱，企图强奸...。Aïlo: an odyssey in Lapland tells the fight for the survival of a small wild reindeer, frail and vulnerable to the challenges that punctuate his first year.
